Doug led a crew of Charles, Hershel, Jerry and John on Saturday morning to assist in the remodeling of Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison. Our job was to expand and raise the stage area to provide a better view for the new seats in the enlarged sanctuary.

Pastor Kenny Dukes is well known in Montevallo from his years of involvement in the school system and athletics and was on-site to support the project along with other men from the church. A few hours later we were loading up the tools and leaving behind a stage ready for stain and carpet.

It was a cold morning January 9 when we met at Doug's shop to build bunk beds. Doug got to the shop early and started a fire and John brought a propane heater and between the two it was comfortable inside. Bill furnished breakfast and after the heaters warmed things up and everyone had a biscuit we got to work.

The bunk beds are distributed by Oak Mountain Mission Ministries along with donated mattresses. We built ten bunk sets last fall and six this time. We expect to build 6-10 every few months as the inventory is distributed.

We all enjoyed the fellowship and doing something that will be of help to others.

The Brotherhood Breakfasts for 2010 got off to a great start Sunday. As always there was a time of fellowship and a meal and this month we had a special guest speaker, Gary Wilkins. By Provision is the ministry of Gary and his wife Elizabeth and their mission is:

To demonstrate Jesus’ love by working with marginalized people in developing countries to equip them for self-sustainable life through accessing, using, and maintaining safe water.

Gary explained their work drilling wells for drinking water in Africa and that their ministry often partners with other Christian efforts, such as drilling a well where another ministry is planting a church.
